Why choose an architect?
Good architecture is about more than getting a building built. It's about creating spaces that work beautifully, respond to their surroundings and deliver lasting value. Whether you're building a new home, renovating or developing a commercial project, an architect can help you make the most of your investment.
What's the difference between an architect and a building designer?
Both can design buildings, but becoming a registered architect involves a significantly more extensive education, training and assessment process.
Architects have to complete five years of university education, at least two years of practical experience, and a rigorous three-part professional examination, culminating in an oral examination before a panel of experienced architects.
Building designers follow a different pathway, with less extensive formal education and assessment requirements.
Are architects more expensive?
Sometimes. An architect's fees may represent a greater upfront investment, but design fees are only a small part of the overall cost of a building.
Architects can add particular value when a project involves a challenging site, a complex brief, a tight budget or an existing building. Through creative thinking and technical expertise, they can uncover opportunities, make better use of space, and balance upfront costs with long-term performance.
The value of an architect isn't just in what they design, but in the opportunities they uncover - and the problems and costs they help you avoid.
